While the snorkel was all fitted it was not quite finished. If the filter in picture one should got blocked, think ice, volcanic ash, airborne debris, etc. the engine could be choked of air. If completely blocked it would quit. For that reason there is an alternate air vent built into the snorkel that can be opened in an emergency from the cockpit.
I had to cut a hole in the correct location and mount a plate with resin and flox and then rivet it in place. Then install a cover plate and attach it to the alternate air cable in the cockpit. It is shown in the open and closed positions in the last two pictures.
