After taking everything apart, the trailing edge wedge is installed.  This has a new procedure for all Van’s aircraft. Van’s used to specify using pro seal to adhere this piece to the skins before riveting.  Now they specify a very high bond double sided adhesive. This worked very well for me.

Before that however, you have to drill to final size all the trailing edge holes.  Because of the angles involved it is not obvious what angle to hold the drill, so I made a drill guide fixture. This works very easily and can be used on the aileron and flap trailing edges as well.

At this point the family had started to gather for Christmas so I got out the rudder and set them up for everybody to see as they came around over the holidays. The last two pictures are how things stood before Christmas. You can get a rough idea of how the two pieces fit together in the last picture.
